DESCRIPTION:Topic: Oral Health Considerations for Adults with Neurodivergence\nThis ASSCID Study Club session will focus on oral health considerations for adults with neurodivergence. \nTopics will include understanding neurodivergent individuals\, clinical assessment\, and practical approaches to modifying dental care. \nThe session will provide practical strategies to support patient-centred care and improve clinical outcomes in this population. \nFacilitator\nDr Gunjan Verma \n \nAbout the Presenter\nDr Gunjan Verma is a Specialist in Special Needs Dentistry\, providing patient-centred care for individuals with medical\, psychiatric\, intellectual\, and physical disabilities. \nHe completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide in 2013 before practising in Tamworth\, where he developed a strong interest in caring for patients with special healthcare needs. \nThis interest led him to the Westmead Centre for Oral Health as a resident in Oral Medicine\, Oral Pathology\, and Special Care Dentistry\, where he gained extensive experience in the multidisciplinary management of medically and behaviourally complex patients. The Teams link will be sent after registering. \nPresenters: Dr Lydia See (Special Needs Dentist) and Ms Yolande Fenner (Occupational Therapist) \nAbout Lydia: \nNavigating the world of special needs dentistry is often complex. Dr Lydia See is dedicated to making oral health care accessible for all individuals with special needs. She enjoys simplifying complex processes for dental\, medical\, and allied health professionals\, ensuring they are well-equipped to manage the oral health of this population. \nSince graduating from the University of Western Australia\, Lydia quickly discovered her passion in special care dentistry\, dental education\, and community dentistry. She completed a Master of Geriatric Dentistry at the University of Southern California and a Diploma in Special Care Dentistry with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She then became a dental specialist after earning a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Special Needs Dentistry) at the University of Queensland. \nLydia’s clinical experience spans public\, hospital\, and private clinical practice. She has actively contributed to tertiary education and research\, with extensive experience in dental volunteering and working with not-for-profit organisations. Outside of her professional commitments\, Lydia enjoys exploring vegetarian culinary delights\, music\, and theatre. \n  \n  \nAbout Yolande: \n \nYolande is a South African Occupational Therapy who studied at the University of Cape Town and graduated in 2017. Yolande has worked across the lifespan specialising in various areas of OT including hand therapy\, cancer rehabilitation and lymphoedema management but her true passion lies in paediatrics.\n\nYolande has continued to build her knowledge in various paediatric models and has a special interest in supporting families and patients with complex needs.
