Dr Bettine Webb
PhD MDS MHP BDS Grad Cert. HighEd
Dr Bettine Webb, who is the Treasurer of ASSCID, has spent a lifetime in the profession of Dentistry. At first she treated only children as Senior Dental Officer in the School Dental Service of NSW. Later, she lectured and supervised at the College of Dental Therapy, Westmead and obtained her MHP (1984) at UNSW whilst at the College.
During her retirement she found time to obtain a MDS (1987) at Sydney University on the School Dental Service, a PhD (1997) at Sydney University on Candida-associated denture stomatitis and a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education at UTS (2000). Each time Bettine says “she was blest with wonderful supervisors from whom she learnt everything”.
Currently her main interest is in research into the aged population particularly at the Aged Care Facilities. Bettine and her colleague Professor CJ Thomas spent two years researching denture stomatitis in these Facilities and as a result feel quite passionately about the older people. Previously a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Dentistry, Bettine holds the positions of Senior Clinical Associate in the Faculty and Honorary Research Associate at the IDR, Westmead. Bettine is the author/co-author of ten dental articles, both locally and overseas, she also reviews new ADA library books.
Life is not all work obviously; Bettine’s interests outside Dentistry extend to travel, trekking and ballroom dancing.
